TL;DR - Our experience has been ruined before it even began by Silverstone's inefficient and virtually non-existent customer service. If you do dare to book, better hope that it goes perfectly smooth; as if you need to get in touch with Silverstone's customer service then be ready to test your patience.
My family decided to book a driving experience in late 2020 for my father's 50th birthday. Given his love of driving and that this was obviously quite the milestone, we decided to pitch in from our savings to get him what we hoped would be the perfect well-deserved gift.
Lockdowns came around which meant his experience could not go ahead as planned. Months go by and we receive an email from Silverstone advising us to re-book using a Google form. After submitting the form and waiting a few weeks, there was no confirmation. I contacted Silverstone's office on behalf of my father. Sue Yeomans-Brown, a coordinator, advised that they hadn't received the re-booking but that she would take care of it if my father emailed her directly - great.
Long story short, my father and I went on to contact Sue and the Silverstone team by email multiple times; getting nowhere but broken links to re-book. At no point were we offered the opportunity to speak to someone by phone in order to arrive at any kind of first contact resolution. Instead, Silverstone's customer service team appears set on sending automated emails to waste their customer's time even more until they come back further frustrated.
The fact that I'm left with TrustPilot as my only avenue to communicate my family's frustration with Silverstone's poor services is further evidence of how distasteful the whole ordeal has been. One would think that after an initial cancellation a company such as Silverstone would take the time and consideration to ensure each and every one of their customers was effortlessly re-booked and reassured that their experience was going ahead. Nope.
After nearly a month, my father finally lost his patience and sent a not-so-friendly email to Silverstone (I apologise for his language). Finally, he was re-booked (albeit for an entirely different date than he requested). I think we'll rather keep the booking as is than risk any further gray hairs from having to deal with Silverstone's appalling lack of customer service.
It's been disappointing having to receive text messages from my father asking me to cancel the experience at times from how frustrating dealing with Silverstone has been. In the midst of how negative this pandemic has been all we wanted to do was bring him a piece of normality, not another stressful situation to have to deal with.
This complaint has been forwarded to Virgin Experiences where the initial booking was made.
One if the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Booked to driving experience vouchers but now trying to redeem them I have hit a problem and for over a week have been trying to get some support. They claim to have a dedicated customer service team but you can’t actually speak to anyone or even get acknowledgment that you exist. I can’t redeem my vouchers and I can’t get a refund. Not what I expected when I booked Silverstone!
Unfortunately still no refund from the Lapland experience despite assurances it was a covid secure booking. It’s a shame to be negative in these times, but they must not promise something and then not deliver. Refunds cannot be trusted so avoid at the moment.
Whilst the light show was good, yes it could have been more christmasie, it was good for their first attempt.
Why I am only giving them 1 star is due to them cancelling the drive in movie, ok we have covid, but surely sitting in your car would be classified as social distancing? They offered various refund options, I took an experience family ticket as a refund. Now they have withdrawn that option.
I could they disappoint one even more? Suppose they can and not refund anything
Very disappointed, poor value for money. Only a handful of light displays and the ones they had were underwhelming and not Christmassy at all. Would not go again, even if it is the only COVID safe activity out there.
Brilliant - worth every penny. For 90 mins we were released from the covid nightmare and actually got some sense of normality. The light show was fantastic and driving on the legendary circuit just can't be topped. Everything about it was ace and those of you who have given it a poor review - what else did you want. Silverstone has put on a excellent show and kept it open to cheer everybody up in these terrible times. Well done to all the organisers and staff at Silverstone.
Underwhelming. Not going again. The staff were great but otherwise this seems like a pretty effective attempt to milk profits for minimum input.
I was quite dubious at first after reading the reviews however I thought it was great. It you love motor racing then it’s a great experience driving around the track. There is also the Silverstone radio station that you tune into which gives shout outs and plays Christmas songs. There’s giant snow globes with Christmas decorations inside and elves dancing in them waving neon sticks, everyone hoots when they go by. How can people say it’s not Christmassy?? I think tuning in to the radio station makes the world of difference so I think the people writing bad reviews might not have done that. There an entrance where you can park up and get food/drink, there’s also a merchandise van if you are a fan of Silverstone. Then it takes around 30mins to drive around very slowly. Yes there are cars in front but everyone is driving around 5miles an hour. They also have a racing car that drives in front to keep the pace. Definitely worth going!
Lap land just poor, over priced under whelming Bad on all accounts Sad really ????
Excited to drive on the F1 track whilst being dazzled and entertained by a light show...... Oh dear!
The entrance and Marshalls were all well organised and then a slow drive in traffic to the start of the circuit.
After a couple of corners and the pit straight, some lights and unlit gloves and it was 'Thanks for visiting' and the exit.
A poor light and laser show at 5mph, any faster and you be out the exit before the first light changed colour.
So disappointing for such a concept at such an iconic venue, it could and should have been so much better.
